The Glowing Lights of Magnolia!

In HSIE we have been working on building a model of a new playground and because of this we have decided to make a lighthouse for our Art Exhibition.

In the first step we had to paint our net with water paint.

The second step was to cut out our net and then the windows with a Stanley knife. Some people were a bit scared at first!

Then we had to use cellophane and glue it inside the windows.

After that we had to glue and fold our net to create a house.

Finally we placed a tea light inside and clipped it shut with a bulldog clip!

We hope you will come along on Friday to see our lighthouses in the Art Show!

KGumnut Artworks

KGumnut have been preparing two artworks for the BSPS Art Show!

  • Artwork 1 – ‘gumnut babies’ based on our class name and the famous Australian book characters Snugglepot and Cuddlepie
  • Artwork 2 – candle holders, based on our learning of Diwali (festival of lights) and other multicultural celebrations

It was a very exciting process – please have a look below!

Pop Artists in S1 Jacaranda

S1 Jacaranda has been taken over by Pop Art! To prepare for the BSPS Art Show we have been learning about the work of pop artist Keith Haring. We have been talking about how he uses lines, colours and shapes in his artwork. Most importantly, we have been talking about how his art makes us feel. Here is what S1 Jacaranda had to say:

“Happy”

“Excited”

“I want to dance”

“It’s making me smile”

Keith Haring used his artwork to ‘light up’ dull places and to make people smile. We have created our own artworks in the style of Haring and we hope they ‘light the way’ and make you smile!

S1 artists tried recreating Haring artworks with their bodies.

People who help us at school by K Gumnut

K Gumnut are learning about different people who help us. We went for a walk around the school to find different people in our school who help us everyday. This is who we found on Wednesday:

Mrs Mitchell makes sure all the children and all the teachers and all the parents are happy. She organises the building work around the school and makes sure the teachers can learn to make the classrooms better places.

Mr Arthur fixes things in our school. He works at our school. Mr Arthur said he really likes school.

Thank you to all the people who work at our school and to all the parents and children for making school such a fun place to play and learn.

Reverse Garbage with S3Fluorite

On Monday the 23rd of June S3Fluorite attended the reverse garbage workshop in our new hall.

We met Brooke and she told us all about how to reuse stuff that was going to be thrown out into the bin.

She told us about the reverse garbage centre and how they save rubbish from going to the landfill (the place they take rubbish to).

Then it was the creating time! First she explained what we were making how to do it. Brooke gave us some safety tips for example, when you poke the hole put the reused stress ball on the ground.

We were making a scarecrow! We used some reused fabrics, ribbons, buttons, chop sticks, pipe cleaners, wires and hessian (a sack fabric).

First we tied the two chop sticks together with pipe cleaners or wires( so they looked like a cross), then we poked a hole in a stress ball  and put it on the chop sticks, we got some fabric and put it over the stress ball ,we tied the ribbon at the bottom of the fabric to hold it in place, then we got some hessian and cut a whole to fit over the head and it made a dress, we tied the middle to make it firm, we poked more holes in the head then put ribbon and poked it into the head to make hair.

We had fun!!!!!

S3Fluorite Grow Salt Crystals!

This term S3Fluorite have been learning about crystals and we are now growing our very own salt crystals!

A crystal is a solid object which is made up of an ordered repeating pattern of the same atom or molecule.

Crystals are all around us, for example: sugar, salt, snow, bath salt, Sapphire, Onyx and Fluorite.

What we needed was :

A jar, water, half a cup of salt, a spoon, a piece of string, scissors and 2 toothpicks.

Instructions:

1. Fill the jar with cold water.

2. Add about half a cup of salt to the water.

3. Mix the solution together with a spoon.

4. Cut a piece of string with scissors and tie each end to a toothpick.

5. Place the string over the top of the jar so that the string dangles into the middle of the solution and the toothpicks hang over the edge.

6. Don’t forget to clean up when you’ve finished.

They are now in our classroom growing and we are waiting for them to grow so we can look at them under the microscope.

Watch out for more photos on the blog for other pictures of the salt crystals.

Stage 3 Fluorite learn about money!!!

On Monday the 24th Stage 3 Fluorite and Stage three Jet went to the ‘financial literacy: survival skills’ work shop. This all happened in our very own school hall. We learnt about credit cards and debit cards. We also learnt about deposits, withdrawals and cheques. We learnt about wage, salary and commission.  We also played some games. One of the games was a massive debit and credit card puzzle. We all got at least one of the puzzles. The  aim was to finish the puzzle first. The other game we played was a bean bag game. We had to run from our starting line to the hoop, then throw the bean bag into the hoop. Then we had to get a piece of card which had jobs names on them, and then we had to pick up the bean bag and run all the way to the starting line. Then we had to sort out our jobs into three  piles. The three piles were called wage, salary, and commission. We learnt a lot, but most of all we had lots of fun!
