Bamboo LOVED the Stage 1 Excursion!

This week, stage 1 have been attending excursions to the George’s River Environmental Education Centre, with a side-trip to Simmo’s Beach. Bamboo and Wattle went today (Monday), while Jacaranda and Violet go tomorrow (Tuesday).

We got to see, touch, and learn more animals (alive and once-living) and plants, build hides and attracted bird-life to view through our binoculars using bird-calls, and used nets to skim the river surface for lifeforms to inspect with our magnifying glasses. We even got to see a real live koala sleeping high in a tree near our lunch area!

2013 Bookfeast!

This year, four students from Years 1-6 were lucky to go the the Annual Bookfeast at Burwood RSL club with Miss Hackney.

We got the opportunity to meet over 30 authors and illustrators, get their signatures, and listen to guest speakers.

We shared a table with Cabramatta West Public School, and the author was Kate Forsyth. Kate was only there for two hours, but we asked all the questions we could while she was there! We also got to meet her sister Belinda Murrell who is the author of the ‘Lulu Bell’ series.

At the end of the bookfeast, we shared a special experience with Nick Falk (author of the ‘Saurus Street’ series) and his illustrator Tony Flowers. They drew each of us a personalised ‘Saurus Street’ illustration and beat us in a question contest.

At the end, when some of the authors had gone home, some students from other schools thought Miss Hackney was an author and even asked for her signature!!!

We love Bookfeast!!!

Our Very First Music Camp!

On Wednesday 20th March, three students from Belmore South Public School joined students from Homebush West Public School, Concord West Public School and Burwood Public School to attend the first ever primary school camp dedicated entirely to music!

During the three days at Naamaroo Lane Cove, we had orchestra practice with all 60 kids, ensemble tutorials, and so much food in between!

On Friday afternoon, our parents came to see our concert, and they were pretty impressed at how much we had improved and all the new friends we had made.

A very big thankyou to Mr Wallace and Tracy Burjan for organising such a great experience for us!

Here is a photo of the composition ensemble performing our piece entitled “Lost and Found”. We composed everything ourselves with the help of Harriet Hardy.

Gems in the Park.

Our Harmony Day Celebrations this year took place at Bi Centennial Park on Homebush Bay.

It was a stunning venue and a beautiful day. Nearly the whole school joined in the celebration and there were lots of parents and their other kids there as well.

We had a great time exploring the built environments like the Tower and the play equipment, many of us especially enjoyed the boardwalk through the Mangroves.

The Sausage Sizzle with a drink was just right for lunch.

Going on an excursion in our Gemstone Teams was a different experience. Check out the photos . . . their are more on Facebook.

GEMSTONE HARMONY AT BICENTENNIAL PARK

Autumn Leaves At Bicentennial ParkStudents enjoying the challenge!

Students, parents and staff from Belmore South Public School recently enjoyed a visit to Bicentennial Park at Homebush for a day packed full of activities to celebrate Harmony Day.
Students attended Harmony Day in groups named after gemstones. All students are a part of a ‘Gemstone Learning Team’: named after gemstones and reflecting positive qualities, such as communication (the ‘Sapphire’ team) and optimism (the ‘Citrine’ team).
The teams are just one way students at Belmore South Public School learn about harmony and develop skills in getting along with others.
In their teams, students joined in a variety of activities such as soccer, cricket, basketball, rope climbing, mangrove sketching, creating leaf rubbings and eating sausages cooked at the sausage sizzle.
The school community enjoyed the great weather on the day and the opportunity to be together to celebrate Harmony Day 2012.

Film Club visit FOX Sports TV Station!

This week Film Club went on an exciting excusrion to FOX sports television station.

Paul from FUEL TV took us on a tour around the station.  We saw how the shows are filmed, editied and then put to air.

We also got to go into the FOX sports news studio, stand behind the news desk and read the news off the autocue!

We learnt about all the amazing jobs that are involved in running a TV station…its not just about actors and presenters…there is so much more!  It was inspiring.

Everyone at the station was very welcoming and we had an awesome time!  Thankyou FUEL TV and FOX Sports! and thank you Mrs Zeini for your help on the day.
