Our Very First Music Camp!

On Wednesday 20th March, three students from Belmore South Public School joined students from Homebush West Public School, Concord West Public School and Burwood Public School to attend the first ever primary school camp dedicated entirely to music!

During the three days at Naamaroo Lane Cove, we had orchestra practice with all 60 kids, ensemble tutorials, and so much food in between!

On Friday afternoon, our parents came to see our concert, and they were pretty impressed at how much we had improved and all the new friends we had made.

A very big thankyou to Mr Wallace and Tracy Burjan for organising such a great experience for us!

Here is a photo of the composition ensemble performing our piece entitled “Lost and Found”. We composed everything ourselves with the help of Harriet Hardy.

Music at Canterbury

This week, the school band and the school choir were invited to perform at Canterbury Leagues Club amongst their seasonal decorations. Both groups performed to an excellent standard. A big thank you to the club for the invitation, and also for presenting us with a generous donation to support the school music program.

The Royal Australian Navy Band sails into Belmore

Last Friday, the Royal Australian Navy Band came to visit our school. We were lucky enough to do a workshop with the band members, and play with the big band on stage.

When it was time for the whole school performance, they woke us up with their entertaining moustache drum routine, and we got to laugh at the teachers doing the nutbush on stage to the rock band!

We have had lots of new band members come and join this week, and are always looking for more to join us. You don’t need to know how to play an instrument, just see Miss Hackney to find out how!

Here are some photos of our exciting day!

Police Concert Band mesmerises staff and students alike

The Police Concert Band performed for our staff and students. The range of the music was wide flowing from toe tappers to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.

Thanks for a wonderful morning . . . maybe someday our band might sound like that??

Brass Band has first practice . . .

The school has the beginnings of a Brass Band.

Ten students are being taught a variety of instruments and they will form the core of the Band.

Thanks to Paula Soeripto for her enthusiasm and her determination to get things underway.

Thanks to the Parent Club for their generosity in donating the money for the band instruments.
