Performances were lively and colourful.

What an evening of entertainment provided by all our students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

The Choir performed under the direction of Mrs Klose.

Diala and Lucas delivered some corny and some cleverly scripted lines!!! (Mrs Klose)

Kindergarten were as cute as the animals they portrayed.

Stage 1 obviously enjoyed dancing, singing and moving.

The Stage 2 response song involved everyone in the song.

Congratulations to our drummers and Ms Stavrou . . . WOW.

The Dance group moved beautifully and the Stage 3 WAKA dancers and percussion were excellent.

Our guests enjoyed themselves and asked that you all be be told how amazing you are!!!!!!!

Haldon Street Success!

Dance group had an amazing time walking in the street parade, and performing, at the Haldon Street Festival in Lakemba on Saturday.
We arrived early, did our makeup, and put our walking shoes on to proudly represent our school.
During the street parade we handed out books, which were donated by our school library, to children along Haldon Street in order to spread the ‘reading bug’.
Straight after the parade we headed to the main stage to perform our story dance to our wonderful community.
Thank you to all the teachers, parents and students that turned up to cheer us on! We had an amazing time and could not have done it without you.
Check out some of the highlights of our day in the gallery below…

Now we eagerly await the final results for the Wakakirri prize….keep your fingers and toes crossed!

Diala’s Cool Wakakirri Article!

IMG_6319

This week The Wakakirri Dance group finished the whole dance apart from some parts that need some finishing touches, we are so proud!

We had a visitor who will help us during our performance. Guess what she is doing? Well she will do the lights for us and we are proud and lucky to have Mrs. K.

We learnt the coolest and most awesomest ( may not be a word ) finishing dance moves ever and I have to say it was even better than two years ago, however two years ago was still very good and fun. And finally for once we actually almost finished the dance AAAALLL the way from the start until a little part where we just stood there with blank faces saying to ourselves ”Whoops I forgot!” “BUT WE JUST SPENT ONE WHOLE HOUR IN THE MORNING PRACTICING!” said Mrs Papadis. However we shouldn’t be angry at her we should be angry at ourselves! Because poor Mrs Papadis taught us as hard as she could and all for nothing but eventually we got it.

Our performance is coming up so soon! I am worried and petrified! WE will also be performing on Education Day, the actual dance at the Entertainment Centre and last but not least at the Haldon Street Festival!!!

WE CAN DO IT BELMORE SOUTH! LETS MAKE OUR SCHOOL PROUD AND WIN!

Honestly I am not just saying this because I am in this school BUT I think that we will come back to Belmore South and share the wonderful news of us winning. All we need to do is put energy into our dance that is it! If we don’t it will look all sloppy and ugly then the audience might boo ( I don’t think that, that is what you want) I think that on the night we may just get so frightened that we put all our energy! Then at the end of the day, guess what?! We will be so extremely tired well at least I hope so.

Mrs Papadis is making our costumes with the help of some of our fellow peers! I can’t wait to see them, I won’t spoil it with some information I know, I may not even be correct but all I know is that, for sure it will look fabulous. No doubts , No buts, No nothing.
I believe in the Wakakirri Dance Group you are all great dancers. Keep it up I hope you liked and had a great and fun time reading my, not just so called “good” “fantastic, great, cool and awesome” article!

Thank you Mrs Papadis for your great effort in our dance. Thank you for organising the making our beautiful costumes (even though I haven’t seen it yet) I’m absolutely sure its cool. O

Wakakirri News

This year Belmore South Public School will be participating in the National Wakakirri festival.  This festival is a performing and visual arts festival created specifically for primary schools to teach students about themselves and others through the creating and sharing of stories.  Wakakirri challenges students to create a story, make a positive impact and share it with Australia.  Interested students were asked to go through an audition process which required them to dance, act and demonstrate their skills in team building.  Fifty students from Years 3-6 were successful and rehearsals have now commenced.

In accordance with our National Partnerships objective our story focuses on the role of reading; from the traditional storytelling of the many cultures within our school through to the use of modern technology.   The main character of our story, which will be played by Puni, is a ‘cool cat’ who has difficulty reading.  Through the use of technology he is exposed to the storytelling traditions of Arabic, Greek, Pacific Islander, African and Asian cultures which inspires him to read.  The item will end with a celebration of reading through dance.

This is an amazing opportunity for our school community and students to display our many talents at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.

Stay tuned for regular updates including performance date and time, progress reports and snapshots of our creative process.   Wakakirri Logo

As one of the 38 schools that were part of the ’10 Great Years’ Our Spectacular production last night at the Sydney Opera House,  I would like to simple say:

CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU!

What a wonderful credit to your school, community  and our region your students were in the Choir and Individual items last night. The combined choir sounded absolutely superb and the variety of choreography among the individual items was magnificent.

Please pass on my sincere congratulations and thanks to each and every student,  teacher and parent involved.

THE OPERA HOUSE CHOIR.

Things are getting very exciting for the Stage 3 members of the Belmore South School Choir.

All 24 of them said they’d be happy to learn the songs in the repetoire, for the Granville Spectacular, at the Opera House, even though we’ve now been told that only 17 students from each school can perform on the night. Mrs Klose and Mrs Harrison really appreciate their enthusiasm and co-operation.

Their work won’t be wasted as we’ll be teaching the songs to the rest of the choir after the Opera House performance. The Stage 3s will be tutors, helping the younger children learn the difficult harmonies and hold their soprano or alto part as they perform together for Presentation Day and other school celebrations.

It’s going to be hard work. We’ll keep you posted on our progress.

Ms Dyer and Mrs Pericles present at a conference for teachers

Inspire, innovate leading digital education 2010 is a conference that was held at NSW Department of Education and Training Technology Conference held at Acer Arena on the Olympic site at Homebush Bay.

Both Ms Dyer and Mrs Pericles were asked to present at this conference. They were very honoured as they were speaking along with a number of distinguished national and international speakers.

The two international speakers were Dr Stephen Heppell from the UK and David Warlick from the USA. They were also fortunate to hear Westley Fields from Sydney.

Ms Dyer spoke about how to get teachers using technology effectively in schools and Mrs Pericles presented a workshop on digital games based learning.

From the feedback from participants at the conference they felt both of Ms Dyer and Mrs Pericles had helped them with their developing deeper understanding of ways to use technology.
