Arabic Dancers rehearse for Multicultural Day

The girls are very keen and are spending a lot of time practising. They are being taught by Mrs Zeini with the help of Mrs Khocheiche.

Haldon Street Success!

Dance group had an amazing time walking in the street parade, and performing, at the Haldon Street Festival in Lakemba on Saturday.
We arrived early, did our makeup, and put our walking shoes on to proudly represent our school.
During the street parade we handed out books, which were donated by our school library, to children along Haldon Street in order to spread the ‘reading bug’.
Straight after the parade we headed to the main stage to perform our story dance to our wonderful community.
Thank you to all the teachers, parents and students that turned up to cheer us on! We had an amazing time and could not have done it without you.
Check out some of the highlights of our day in the gallery below…

Now we eagerly await the final results for the Wakakirri prize….keep your fingers and toes crossed!

Asian and Turkish a delicious fusion of cultures…

On Monday parents and teachers shared some more yummy recipes. We had a fresh Asian savoury San Chow Bow and a sweet Turkish Semolina Pudding sensation.
We shared ideas on how to get kids invoved in cooking and Mrs Klose shared some great tips for ‘hiding’ veggies in food to make it so much better for us.
It was fantastic to see so many new parents come and join in the fun!!!
Please join us for the next Cook In on Monday 12th September in the hall at 9.15.

Props and Costumes ready . . . Diala writes

We tried on our OUTFITS!! We had a rehearsal with our outfits. The outfits were designed by Ms Papadis and some of the students. We practiced as hard as we could and we are at a point where we need to start being a little serious šŸ™‚ ( Ms Papadis is for sure which is fantastic ).

Our outfits and props are looking so good and what makes it even more amazing they are made from mostly recycled things. Look closely at the Ipad and you’ll see its a chalkboard from our Kindy room.

I can’t wait until we perform in front of everyone on Education Day/ Week. I am quite nervous but I know that there is nothing to panic about because if you see someone laughing the only reason is because they are jealous and say to themselves
” I wish I joined ” Which means they wanted to be in the dance group.

Looking good Diala writes

We can see the difference through out our dance if you compare us from the start and all the way until the end. Also for the dance group people you MUST WEAR SCHOOL UNIFORM THEN CHANGE INTO YOUR CLOTHES. šŸ˜€ It is the day after tomorrow and I absolutely can’t wait! No one should be nervous or maybe if you are nervous a bit it is okay but remember act  like your’e just rehearsing by your self, no one is there , no on is laughing nothing. They are just cheering and clapping with joy. I wish good luck to everyone who will be dancing šŸ˜› ( including myself ) , make sure you put in all your energy and you don’t talk and laugh all the way through.

Our dancing skills have improved so much and anyone can tell because it’s not sloppy it is just dancing with energy. I have a feeling we will do so well and it is a great way to practice in front of a crowd or a bunch of people. We hope that we have improved heaps from the last time we danced. You also may notice that some of our dance moves have changed a little bit, well the reason is because we thought that it would be easier the way it is now and we find it better to do the steps.

For once I feel that I am good at dancing because usually I’m not so good and I seem to feel left out. But now it has all changed, I feel happier dancing , I feel more involved which is awesome.

Thank you Ms Papadis for choreographing this with pleasure and in a great way. How can you think of all these moves?! They are so cool and wonderful, especially the music. Well done on matching it with our story line.

Also did you know that our school is in the short list which means that I’m not sure if it was the judges but someone important loved our story ( The Reading Bug ) . Thank you to everyone who has helped in any kind of way, whether it was with the music , the outfits , the props anything.

Thank you Ms Papadis .

Diala’s Wakakirri Diary continues . . . feedback improves performance.

This morning The Wakakirri Dance Group had feedback from Ms Papadis. The feedback came from some of the other teachers when we had the sneak peak preview of our dance. Ms Papadis told us that we had to build up our confidence which is very true so each time we come to dance we are a new person , a , completely new person, new name , new confidence, new everything!

We also changed some moves because we just thought that it would be easier. Thank you Ms Papadis for the great moves! I thought we did a lot better with our moves and we focused mainly on the parts we changed so that we could remember it. I think itā€™s a great idea because if you move on so quickly weā€™ll forget it and think itā€™s still our old moves.

Our performance is coming sooner and sooner every week and I hope we do well , I think we will no matter what because we have the support of our teachers and we have the best moves! What better can you have? I am glad that I participated in this dance because I love to dance. I found it so fun to learn the new dance moves because I was doing FANTASTIC! YAY! I can tell you that if we build up our confidence, stop looking at each otherā€™s feet or looking around we can nail this ! Every time I come to Dance rehearsals thereā€™s just something about it that makes me think ā€ I am proud that we have Ms Papadisā€ . From the start of this dance I knew this was going to be awesome, superb , fantastically, GREAT!

I canā€™t wait until I see how the costumes look like. Itā€™s just so exciting. At times it may be a little hard and frustrating but when you know everything perfectly then youā€™ll be happy to do this dance on stage but if you donā€™t know anything it will show on your face.Itā€™s been such a great time dancing and I am more than happy to have Ms Papadis as our dance teacher because she doesnā€™t JUST teach us the dance moves, she teaches us seriously but fun seriously so itā€™s not too serious itā€™s a way that we can learn so much better. If we donā€™t get the moves correct and we keep on making mistakes Ms Papadis helps us until we get it all correct and thereā€™s no error, spot on which is so good .

Thank you to Ms Papadis again
