Book Week Book Parade

One Friday in August, Belmore South dressed up in their favourite fictional characters for the book parade. Students read books from the Premier’s Reading Challenge list and made craft in their gemstone teams.

Here are some photos from the book parade.

2Warhol’s Term of Buddy’s, Sculptures and Technology

2Warhol have been practising our dance which is a Hip Hop battle. We’ve been learning new hip hop moves and getting the chance to do our own choreography. Last week was Education Week and we were lucky enough to perform in front of the whole school and lots of parents. We got a really good response from the audience who cheered and clapped really loud. Don’t worry if you missed out as we will be performing it again in week 10 so come along then!

Last term 2Warhol kids loved learning about Space and visiting the Powerhouse Museum. This term doing a unit called ‘Stage 2 Saves the World’ which is full of important stuff like sustainability, pollution and climate change. Below are some pictures of some of the ‘Space’ work we completed last term. Stay tuned for all the excellent things we will be doing in our world saving unit. Especially some photos of us on our next excursion (ssshhhhh, it is at a secret location).

In our Creative and Performing Arts sessions we have been learning about making shapes and lines with our bodies. We’ve been making ‘scupltures’ out of our arms and legs and coming up with some really great ideas. Miss Stavrou gives us a stimulus and we have to work out how to represent it with our bodies. Some of these were a knife and fork, a zig zag, a circle and lots of fun silly ones too. See if you can pick what we are trying to be.

We have been doing Information Technology in class each week and learning how to use Macbooks and PC laptops. We’ve been focusing on word processing skills, inserting tables and formatting and soon we’ll be learning how to insert our own blog posts onto the stage 2 blog site. These skills will help us in school and work for the rest of our lives.

2Warhol was really lucky to get a visit from 1Matisse in Book Week for a buddy reading experience. Both classes had heaps of fun completing activities together and the older Stage 2 kids really showed leadership skills and played excellent role models. Miss Stavrou felt proud of all of us and our behaviour with the younger students.

Family and friends help us celebrate Book Week 2011

Thanks to everyone who came along and helped us all celebrate all of our stories. It was great to see so many family and friends sharing in the fun of the parade.

Look at the colourful and creative characters

Most of the children from Kindy to Year 6 dressed up this year. There were many colourful book characters. The most popular book characters were from Harry Potter. There several Professor McGonagalls, a few Harry Potters and even a Voldemort!

Lucky Draw Winners

The Lucky Draw saw heaps of people getting books. Harmony and Sarah were extra lucky with Harmony’s name being drawn 4 times and Sarah’s twice.

David was super lucky he ended up with the Nintendo DS.

Proceeds from the draw are going towards the school vegie patch.

The SRC raised $350.00. WOW!!!

Miss Hackney catches up on Book Week!

Unfortunately Miss Hackney was at a big meeting when we had our book parade.

We asked Little Red Riding Hood to take photos of us so that Miss Hackney didn’t feel like she missed out on too much fun!

Here are some photos taken from the spycam during the day…

We joined our buddy class S3Gaudi and Mrs Pericles to make masks to celebrate book week.

Thankyou Stage 3!!!

Book Week Happenings

Book Week this year had the theme of Book Safari and we had a great time.

The teachers and our Librarian Mr Vitale organised all sorts of activities in the Library.

We had a Jungle Safari Performance which many of the students went to see.

During this week we have all worked really hard to earn money to buy more Home Readers for our school. We raised nearly $3000.00.

We had a Guessing Competition with the following great prizes: a bike, a DS Lite and games, an ipod shuffle, a teddy bear and a whole pile of Guiness World Record Books.

The Guessing Competition was drawn on Friday after our Book Week Parade.

The parents ran a Cake Stall so there was plenty of bad stuff to eat.

Wow!!! All the amazing characters that were walking around our playground were incredible. Check out the photos of the ugly group who are more often identified as the teachers.

The other photos are of the students who won their stage Best Dressed Competition as well as one of our teachers who won the Best Dressed teacher Competition. UGLY!!!!!
