2Warhol’s Busy Term One

2Warhol’s year has started with a bang.  We’ve been busy making our classroom a friendly colourful learning environment that has the personal touch of every student.

To start the year 2Warhol brainstormed the kind of rules they thought were important for everyone in the class to follow. We also had fun acting out what following the rules might look like.

We’ve also been learning about our namesake Andy Warhol, and recreating some of his famous artworks and styles.

We investigated Andy Warhol through the internet, looking at and learning about the genre ‘Pop Art’ and how it differs from fine arts. The students introduced using new words like ‘repetition’, ‘popular’ and ‘contrast’ to describe Warhol art and his manipulation of portraits and advertising.

Below are some of the excellent Warhol inspired artworks we have created during the term including still life sketching and portraiture.

During interest groups at the start of the term, our class started learning about Tie Dying and we all loved doing it so much we are continuing to create some amazing Tie Dye throughout the year (weather prevailing).

It is a messy process but the rewards are worth the stained hands (temporarily of course!). As the year progresses we’ll all be learning some new techniques that are fun and easy to do. Be warned parents and any old clothes lying around, this means you’ll probably be taught how to do it at home too!

World Maths Day in S3 Clark

p style=”visibility:visible;”>

Written by Farah, Angela and Kim

On Wednesday we had our own world maths day. On this day there were lots of maths stations set up around the room. These stations were:
– Computers: We logged onto Mathletics and competed in the World Maths Day Challenge. We were helping to break the world record.
– Hidden Symbols: where you draw a picture and you have to include as many maths symbols in it as you can so people can’t find it. Then you get someone to try and spot the symbols in your picture.
– Maths is all around us: we had to find anything to do with maths in the newspapers. We could also write and draw other things we new were to do with maths. We put these on 2 posters.
– Maths board games: there were lots of different maths games we could play.
– Problem solving: here there was lots of problem solving puzzles to do with number and time.
We had a lot of fun and want to do it again next year.

We’re all stars in S3 Clark

Written by Harry

On Friday we made ‘positive stars’. Each person had a coloured star. On them we wrote positive things about each other. First we made one side of the star colourful with colourful tissue paper. We stuck it down with a PVA glue and water mixture. While they were drying we sat in a big circle and when Miss McIntosh blew the whistle we passed a star on and wrote a nice comment on the star we had in front of us. We kept passing them around the circle until everyone had written on everyone else’s star. We then had some time to read the comments. It made us feel really good inside reading what people wrote about us. They will be hung up in our room for the whole year so we can read them whenever we feel down or we just want to smile.

Caught . . . totally engaged

It’s great to walk around the school . . . everyone so goal oriented and on task whether in the Infants or Primary classes.
Here are some of our students caught in the act of learning.

Student Representative Councillors Learning How to Lead

Leadership doesn’t come naturally to all students. The skills need to be taught or developed if already there in the seed stage.

Every week Ms Wilson and Ms Dongas work with all the SRC members for an hour.

The SRC will be working together, with their classes and their teachers to provide leadership and promote ideas from their peers to the Council.

The Council will take the lead in areas of school fundraising and student led activities.

Student Awards

Our students are awarded certificates for being caught doing positive things in our community and for being good workers, citizens helpers, sportspeople.

When they are “caught being good” in the classroom or on the playground the teacher gives them a star for their star chart.

When they achieve:

  • 15 stars (K to2) & 20 stars (3 to 6) they are awarded a bronze certificate and ribbon,
  • 30 stars (k to 2) & 45 stars (3 to 6) they are awarded a silver certificate and ribbon
  • 45 stars (k to 2) & 60 stars(3 to 6) they are awarded a gold certificate and their parents receive a letter congratulating them on their achievement.

Once they achieve a gold certificate the cycle begins again. The child in each class with the most awards at the end of the year is presented with a platinum award.
