Symphonium Jubilate

On the weekend, Ms McCoy and Mrs Mortimer enjoyed representing our school at the Community of Schools’ Symphonia Jubilate Concert.

“Do you want to give your child a treasure that will last forever?”

Her Excellency, Dame Marie Bashir asked the audience this question at the Community of Schools’ Symphonia Jubilate Concert recently as she accepted the role of patron for our Year 4-Year12 orchestra. She spoke of her own childhood and the importance she placed on her own quality education and her memories of the passion particular teachers instilled in her for inquisitiveness. She shared her belief that the most important jobs were those of teachers, nurses and plumbers. Teachers, for giving the gift of education; Nurses, for supporting us when we are sick; and plumbers? They keep us healthy, absent of unhygienic conditions!

Lilly, Year 4 Jade, represented our school at a special afternoon tea before the concert, where dame Marie Bashir asked the students, “What is Australia’s most precious resource?”. The answer? Our children.

Ziping, (Year 6 Jade) made a speech at the concert, thanking the conductors and tutors, including Ms McCoy, for helping him learn new skills and accomplish more than he ever expected and making his dreams come true.

A highlight of the concert was the community choir. Ms McCoy, her dad, and John and Ronelle Knowles sang brilliantly with the recentlyformed choir. they sang Here comes the sun and the beautiful “Adiemus” which many of us heard the other night at the Town Hall.
